Back in March, we set up NMDP booths across BYU campus. Over a couple of days, we watched something pretty special happen. Students stopped and swabbed to join the stem cell registry. By the end, 740 people signed up!
For most people walking by, it is a quick process. For families like mine, it means everything. My daughter Livie is here today because our donor stopped at a NMDP booth while she was on campus. That simple act gave Livie a second chance at life.
That is why getting the word out matters so much. Every new person on the registry brings hope to families who are waiting for that one match. You never know when you might be the person who makes that difference. Lives are literally saved because of these small, simple decisions.
It has been inspiring to watch so many young adults take part in something bigger than themselves. They choose to. And because of that choice, lives will be saved down the road.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make it happen. You are giving families like mine more time, more memories, and more hope. That is a gift I will never stop being grateful for.
